Introduction

Internet freedom

XS4ALL supports initiatives aimed at making information on the internet accessible to everyone and combating or circumventing censorship. We therefore sponsor a number of alternative news sources, such as the independent radio station B92 in the former Yugoslavia and Radio Zamaneh. This is a Persian-language private radio station broadcasting independent programmes from Amsterdam to Iran via shortwave, satellite and the internet. As part of our internet freedom activities we also assist Indymedia NL, which uses an open publication method including text, images and sound to provide a different perspective on the news.

We support Buro Jansen & Janssen (a research bureau that critically monitors the police and intelligence services), the annual presentation of the Big Brother Award (by the Bits of Freedom foundation), Press Now, Amnesty International and the Loesje association. XS4ALL also supports organisations devoted to privacy and security on the internet, such as the Institute for Information Law (IVIR), which focuses specifically on the legal aspects of the internet. XS4ALL also regularly sponsors conferences and festivals related to developments in the world of the internet, such as Megabit, the hackers' festival What the Hack and the Weerwoord Festival.

We also support the Internet Archive. The Internet Archive is a non-profit internet library established to give researchers, historians and (other) academics permanent access to historical collections in digital format. The Internet Archive contains texts, audio, video, software and archived web pages.

Internet improvement

XS4ALL assists and provides expertise for organisations devoted to improving the internet. For XS4ALL, a better internet also means a safe internet. For example, XS4ALL helped the judicial authorities to round up an illegal bot network and the company is a co-founder and provider of financial support for Meldpunt Kinderporno, an organisation devoted to combating the spread of child pornography on the internet. XS4ALL also wants to keep the internet 'healthy' and free from viruses, spam, trojans and other forms of nuisance affecting the internet and its users. XS4ALL therefore supports organisations such as the Dutch Linux Users Group, CPAN and Clam Antivirus.

Sponsorship request

XS4ALL's sponsorship projects are projects which fit in with the company's social activities in the field of security, privacy and freedom of speech or in which open source philosophy, technical development and innovation play a central role.

If you would like to submit a sponsorship request that matches these criteria, send an e-mail to sponsoring@xs4all.nl
